Tropes vs. Women in Video Games

I know I’m like 5 months late on this, but I have been closely following it since it started.

Anita Sarkeesian of Feministfrequency.com started a Kickstarter project to raise $6000 to devote herself full-time to making a series of YouTube videos about female tropes and stereotypes in video games.

As you can imagine, all Hell broke loose. She became target #1 for the nerdy men of the internet. She was horrifically trolled. Her website was hacked. She received death threats. Someone made a flash game where the player can violently beat Anita to death. All because she is a female feminist who wants to have a dialogue about women in a conversation which 9 times out of 10 is male-centric and excludes women. It’s disgusting.

All the fuss towards her was only helpful because she raised almost $200000 (!!!!!!!) on Kickstarter, which she plans on using for her future videos, as well as to redesign and beef up the security on her website.

I just thought I’d post all of this info in case you’ve been living under a rock. Go check out her website to see the extent of the abuse she has endured. Check out her other videos, which are fabulous. They especially helped me out during my baby feminist time. Her first video about video games should be out soon. YAY.
